Calis Beach And 007 - It's A Date

Anyone in Turkey at the moment is no doubt fully aware that part of the new James Bond film, Skyfall, is currently being filmed in the country. Proceedings have not been without controversy but our post today is about one of the chosen settings.

Obviously, Istanbul was chosen for part of the filming - why would you choose to film in Turkey and not use Istanbul as a backdrop - but us residents of Fethiye were most intrigued to discover that a little section of the far end of Çalış Beach was also to be used.
Apparently, Daniel Craig (James Bond) is going to plunge from the historic bridge in Adana and emerge from the water in Çalış. Well, that's the beauty of film. We can't wait to see how all that is going to work out on the big screen!

View of Fethiye from Surf Cafe, Çalış Beach
We've been away from Fethiye for just under a week now but, just before we set off for Italy, the Facebook grapevine soon made us aware that the marquees were being erected. Filming was due to begin and we wanted to see what was going on so we set off towards the beach.

Huge marquees had indeed sprung into being, generators were rumbling, lorries were manoeuvring and walkie-talkie-wielding film crew were milling about, occasionally mumbling indecipherables into ther walkie-talkies. We got a couple of photos of the marquees (which we've since found out  we weren't supposed to do, but hey...) before going into the Surf Cafe for an Efes Pilsen or two...

The Surf Cafe is being used as a feeding and watering hole for the film crew but we were allowed in for a drink - and to get a photo of the view; a view that is not only of Fethiye from the Surf Cafe but also...maybe...a scene from James Bond. We'll find that out once the film is released.

That beach looks so inviting to me!! - we have been washed by the rain in the UK !
Enjoy for us too!

I had to laugh at your comment about realizing you weren't supposed to snap the marquees- as you said- oh well! :)

@ Ozlem's Turkish Table: Heard about the horrendous weather in the UK. Turkey is just starting to warm up nicely now. Looking forward to getting back to Fethiye to sample summer. :-)

@ Anjuli: Well there are no signs telling you not to. :) We just heard that people had been told off for doing it. Yes, oh well. :)
