A Guide To Getting The Most From Our Hotel Pages

As we're in the height of the summer season, people are looking to book hotels for their stay in Turkey and we've had a few emails of late regarding the use of our Fethiye & Turkey Hotels page. When you add new functions to a blog, because you've sat and worked it all out and tested the system, you assume its functions must be obvious to everybody else as well. As a former teacher, I should know better and the emails we've received have confirmed that. What we know is not necessarily what other people know and vice versa!

Aside from being a platform for us to share insight into our life in Turkey, we also want this blog to be a useful resource for you. So, here it is...

A Guide To Getting The Most From Our Hotel Pages

Let's assume you want to book a hotel in Fethiye. As you're reading this post, if you glance to the left, you will see the brown 'Find A Hotel' search box. You can start typing the city you are looking for into that or, if you look at the tabs at the top, just underneath our main header, you will see that the second tab says 'Fethiye & Turkey Hotels.' If you click this tab, you will be taken into the Fethiye Hotels page that looks like this:

Let's take a look at the system of booking a hotel in Turkey. I've added the blue arrows to make life easier for the explanation.

Arrow 1: We write mainly about Fethiye but we aim to be a Turkey resource as time passes. Using our page, you can book a hotel anywhere in Turkey (actually, anywhere in the world!) so we've added some tabs at the top to make it easier to click between different places. Search wherever you like! The right-most tab is for all Turkish cities.

Arrow 2 is pointing at the currency box. We're pointing this out because I was frustrated that prices were coming up in Turkish lira for me when I was browsing hotels for Italy. I didn't know you could choose your currency and most of this has been explained to me by Barry! In this case, we've chosen the British Pounds option.

Arrow 3: We're now in the Search Hotels in Fethiye box. Add your dates. If you haven't got any, just tick the bottom box - but in this case, let's say we want to book from 1st-8th October. Type that in and hit Search. Easy. Once you click Search, this page will load:
As you can see, 114 hotels in Fethiye have been found with availability for these particular dates. Do you really want to look through 114 hotels? Maybe you do, but if you don't, you can sort the hotels using the Distance, Star rating, Price or Guest Rating functions. Those might help you organise your search a little bit better.

Personally, though, we prefer to use the following refine functions to reduce the number of hotels to look through.

On the same page, if you look left, you will see a Refine Your Search box. This is just a screen shot of a tiny section. There are all sorts of options here but, as you know, whenever we travel, it's on a budget and so in this example, let's narrow it down by price.

As you can see, the most expensive hotel for our dates in October is £2,245 for the week. Now, there is no way Barry and Julia are going to give any thought to that price. It's just not in our psyche. No, let's lose the £2,245 and make it much cheaper. Click on the square above the arrow and drag it to the left and watch the price tumble to...

...well, we're looking at around the £300 area for a week in a hotel. As soon as you release the click, the hotels will filter right down and all the hotels that are out of your price range (if you have one) will disappear.
We've now got 69 hotels in our price range for the first week in October. And, oh look, one of them is a 5 Star place. Let's click on the 5-Star rating (left search box) to see which place it is. In this case, it's Odyssey Residence in Karagedik. It's a way out of Fethiye but we're not bothered about distance. Price is our concern.
Top Arrow: As you can see, the search goes through the online booking companies and pulls up the best prices. You just need to click on the best option for you if you want to book. And if there's nothing to take your fancy...

...Expand Your Search To Show More Hotels: Well, if you're anything like us and you start to get curious, this section shows you all the towns near to Fethiye, with distances, where you might also consider booking a hotel.

As we said, we want to be a useful resource as well as sharing what we see and learn about Turkey. We really hope our hotel pages can be helpful. Happy searching.
