Fethiye Photo: The International Ölüdeniz Airgames

Well, today's Fethiye photo was never going to be anything else, really, was it? Today is the first day of the annual International Ölüdeniz Airgames: three days of paragliders, parascenders, paramotors, microlights, and whatever else may be there, sharing the airspace around the skies of Ölüdeniz.

We've been to at least one day of the event for the last few years and did a 12th International Ölüdeniz Air Games photo post about last year's event. It's just a really good round off to the summer season for the area. As all is winding down in other tourist resorts, Ölüdeniz gets one last blast - a whole long weekend where the place becomes a showcase for paragliding, in particular.

Today's photo is obviously from last year's event, despite our little addition of this year's date. We're heading off over the hill to Ölüdeniz this afternoon to see what's in store for the 2012 event. No doubt there'll be hundreds of paragliders from all over the world, gliding, spinning and tumbling towards the ground from the top of Babadağ.

We're also anticipating a decent number of onlookers as today's weather in Fethiye is an absolute scorcher. We predict lots of swimmers as well as fliers this year.

And as usual, we'll be going over there with camera - watch this space for photos from the first day of the 13th International Ölüdeniz Airgames.

There is not a day goes by we don't comment about Turkey (or Fethiye). Wish we were there to ride to dolmus to Ölüdeniz for the festivities. This sounds like a good time. Enjoy yourselves.

Such a shame my father left today. As one of the oldest paragliders around, he would have loved to see this.

@ Mark: We had a great day Ölüdeniz, thanks. Hoping to go back on Tuesday for more fun. Hope you're enjoying your time in Mexico. :)

@BacktoBodrum: Aww yes, if he's a paraglider, he would love it. You'll have to get him over to Ölüdeniz next year for the next airgames. :)
