The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms

Our online Contact Form collects your name, email and content so that we can keep track of your query or feedback. You will need to consent to such information being retained by us by ticking the box beneath your message before submitting.

Cookies & Advertising

A cookie is a small piece of data (a text file) that a website, when visited by a user, asks your browser to store on your device in order to remember information about you, such as your language preference or login information.

For example, if you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

We also use third party cookies (ie. ones from a domain different than the domain of the website you are currently visiting) for our advertising and marketing efforts, including personalised advertising by services such as Google’s Adsense.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to our website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of Google’s personalised advertising by visiting Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

To learn more about cookies and how to manage or delete them, you can visit allaboutcookies.org or consult the help section of your browser.

Many links on this site to third party websites are purely for information and reference. However, we also participate in a number of affiliate schemes whereby we may receive a commission if you click through from a link on our website and make a purchase. It should come at no extra cost to you and we only deal with other website which we ourselves endorse.

For example, as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases and you can view their cookies notice here. Likewise, we also use the white labels and affiliate schemes of HotelsCombined, Booking.com and Travelpayouts to help you find hotels and flights at good prices while helping to pay for our website’s running costs.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images etc.). Embedded content from other websites – like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest & Twitter, for example – behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account with that website and are logged in.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analysis service provided by Google, to better understand your use of our website. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit our website, what pages they visit and what other sites they used prior to visiting. Google uses the data collected to track and examine the use of our website to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services.

We do, however, use the Monster Insights plugin to to anonymise the information sent to Google Analytics.

Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this website is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy.

Google offers an opt-out mechanism for the web available here.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.
