Eating & Drinking In Fethiye: The HangOut In Ölüdeniz

We don’t get over the hill from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz very often. But when we do, we have a few favourite places we like to go to.

And then, occasionally, we’ll venture to somewhere new just for a change of scenery.

Well, we don’t want to be getting stuck in our ways, now, do we?

Favourites include Seahorse Beach along the lagoon – bizarrely, we’re yet to do a post on Seahorse but they’re the same family as Denizatı Restaurant along Fethiye harbour (denizatı means seahorse).

So we’ve kind of covered them.

Hopefully, the Ölüdeniz version of that post will appear sometime over this season.

We’re also quite partial to eating pide at Kumsal Restaurant along Belcekiz Beach.

And a couple of summers ago, The HangOut in Ölüdeniz also joined our list of favourites, too.

It was a random one where we just decided to see what it was like. And it was a find.

We love us a terrace bar – especially a seafront terrace bar – and The HangOut is that lovely terrace you can see right there in the photo above.

As well as views across the paragliding landing bases, across the beach and out to sea, you also get the paragliders right overhead swooping down to land along the side street that The HangOut joins.

It’s not Ölüdeniz without the paragliders

We’ve never eaten at The HangOut – but when we were there last week, there was a smattering of people around and their food looked very appetising indeed.

A drink here is not the cheapest drink around – but then this is Ölüdeniz and you’re sitting on a seafront terrace.

We go here for a one-off treat just to have a chill and, as we said, it’s not often we get over to Ölüdeniz.

When we do go, we like to make the most of it.

A few days ago, we shared a photo of The HangOut terrace and the views from there.

It was our most liked and shared photo for April. So it seems lots of you agree with us that this place is worth venturing to if you’ve never been before.

And for more ideas of where to eat and drink around the area, don’t forget, we have a longer list on our Fethiye Eating & Drinking page.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity to read more about Ölüdeniz. Don't think I've heard about this nature reserve close to Fethiye before, so I'll definitely ad it to my 'next-time-in-Turkey' list.

Well if you are ever in these parts, around Ölüdeniz, make sure you let us know. :)

In 1981 I sailed into the Ölüdeniz lagoon. Keith Jarret was playing quietly over the sound system and we were the only boat there. There was one pension on the beach, but the few sun loungers were empty. It was like sailing into paradise. The image has stuck with me for 33 years as one of the most perfect days in my life.

Sounds idyllic. Ölüdeniz has changed a lot since we first saw it in 1998 so it must have changed loads for you. Would be nice if they stopped the building now but that's not gonna happen, wouldn't think.
