Kayaköy in Springtime: A Few Photos

When is the best time to visit the village of Kayaköy? Well if you’re hiking from Kayaköy to Ölüdeniz or walking to Af Kule, then for us, the absolute best time to be in the area is on a crispy, sunny, winter’s day. All the better for photographs of the stop-you-in-your-tracks views.

But how about if you just want to spend a bit of time exploring the ruins of Kayaköy and enjoying the peace and quiet of the village itself? For us, this is right now. End of April / beginning of May. Last week, on the same day as we went to take a few photos of Ölüdeniz, we also went over the hill and down to Kayaköy.

This time of year sees Kayaköy in full bloom and the village takes on a whole new look as crimson poppies sprout sporadically from seemingly impossible places. This is our favourite time to be here so I decided to take a few photos to show you exactly why.

Of course, as the summer season hits, the springtime flowers die away until the following year and the peace and quiet loses out to quad bike safaris, but let’s not go there. Now is the best time to be in Kayaköy. Let’s savour this moment.

Kayaköy has cooler temperatures than Fethiye so you can enjoy the meadows, so colourful at this time of year, in comfort.

The colours in Kayaköy at this time of year are short-lived and that’s why this time is so precious. The village takes on a completely different appearance that you can only experience in late spring. This is when we love to be in Kayaköy.
