May In Fethiye – What Happened This Month

It’s that time of the month again where we look back on what’s happened throughout the month and – so fast, it seems – here we are, already at the end of May.

This is the section where we look back on Fethiye blog posts from this month and also mention a few things that we haven’t written about. So, let’s get started…

Tourism In Fethiye

We’ve not seen any official figures as yet, and, as they always seem to differ greatly between various sources anyway, we’re going with our eyes on this one.

And we’ve get to say, it looks like it’s been a good start to the summer season for the Fethiye area.

Numbers of people milling around Paspatur, Fethiye harbour and along Çalış Beach are our usual clues – and the people are there.

Our last blog post was also about the beautiful brand new Hotel Unique in the centre of Fethiye. Always got to be encouraging to see new tourism businesses like this.

Eating Fethiye

Some of the people visiting Fethiye through the summer happen to be our friends, so, inevitably, the number of times we eat out in Fethiye makes a bit of a jump in frequency.

May was the month we tried out the joy that is Kebap Time.

We can’t blame our friends for our Kebap Time visit. That was an indulgence out of pure curiosity.

But we can thank our friends for our foodie indulgences at Club Letoonia Fethiye and we’ve also got a couple of other eating out ideas coming up for you in the next few days.

Following Fethiyespor

In our Fethiye In April roundup, you may remember the town was hoping against hope that Fethiyespor would be able to stay in PTT 1. Lig.

Well, it wasn’t to be – and, of course, everyone has their opinions as to why it wasn’t to be – all sports fans are ‘experts’ in their trade, including us.

But we’re four weeks on now, we are where we are (Spor Toto 2. Lig is where we are), and we’re looking forward to next season.

Hopefully we’ll get through that ONE season and move straight back up to 1. Lig without playoffs…we have high hopes.

Fethiye World Music Festival

Well, yes, bar a few minutes of the first night, we missed the organised performances for this year’s world music festival. We had friends out and time ran away with us.

However, as we were sat at Deep Blue Bar with these friends, little did we know we were in the right place at the right time.

In walked Scott Jeffers with his band Traveler and we were all treated to an impromptu gig.

Soma Mine Tragedy

This awful tragedy has affected the whole of Turkey. In Fethiye, Paspatur bars closed for a night as a mark of respect, people blacked out social media profile photos and cover photos – and many page admins, including us, just didn’t post any updates for a while.

Various fundraising events have taken place, and continue to take place, around town.

If you’re in Fethiye and fancy going along, there is a ballet performance taking place at the Fethiye Culture Centre on Sunday night.

June

None of us know what June will bring – but if you’re coming to the Fethiye area for your holidays during that month, have a good one.

Check out our Fethiye Must Sees & Dos for ideas of where to visit and our Fethiye Eating & Drinking page is always growing.

Lots of reviews there for different bars and eateries.

Backto Bodrum

Saturday 31st of May 2014

I didn't notice many foreign tourists in Bodrum during May, but the airport was packed with them when I left. I don't know where they were hiding.

Yeah, a good start for Fethiye, thankfully. :)
