Hmm, we’re a tad late with our November roundup of what’s been happening in Fethiye – and as December is…well, it’s December isn’t it and anything can happen.
Planning for Christmas and New Year, doing normal life in between; December is always a month where anything goes, really, and we just fly through it.
So this post is going to be a bit random. Two months in one post – a look back and a look forward.
Fethiye Harbour – Phase 3
We’d love to tell you the day is almost here when the final section of Fethiye harbour is all paved and landscaped and complete.
But it’s not and it’s just how things are; we’ve got used to it being like this.
There has been a team of workmen on the paved section all this week and they’ve put lots of pebbles on top of the rocks that line the harbour wall.
Ours not to reason why, but it looks like more of a gentle slope going into the sea now, rather than a rocky drop.
And that’s about all we can tell you on that score. It’s more of a Mediterranean-style ‘stroll of progress’ than a ‘march of progress,’ and we don’t mind a stroll.
Eating Fethiye
It’s all been a little bit of exploration recently when it comes to eating out around Fethiye.
Our ‘go to’ for a sit down and a chat, Cafe Cafe, is having a hefty refurb (and is looking good if a bit ‘shell-like’ still) so, when we were in town recently, we had to think of somewhere else to go.
And last month, well we just had to go and have a nosy at the new Baba Fırın – Daddy’s Bakehouse and cafe to see what all the fuss was about…and then we made loads of fuss about it, too.
Bread and cakey heaven!
As for our own exploits in the kitchen, if you want to get creative with sprouts, we’ve done a couple of Brussels sprouts recipes. Always good for the festive season.
And if it’s cold where you are, we did a Turkish classic kuru fasulye recipe. Great comfort food.
And what’s in store for December. As we said above, who knows?! For the first time though, we’re eating out on Christmas Day so that should be interesting. Denizatı Restaurant is the venue.
We’re very much home birds on Christmas Day but we’re having a change, this year. Well, you don’t know if you don’t try, do you? Let’s see. We shall be reporting back, here, that’s for certain.
A Fethiyespor Anniversary
It’s a tough season, this season, for Fethiyespor. I think we can safely class ourselves as the cliched ‘long-suffering supporters,’ these days.
Not as long-suffering as many others but getting there, all the same. But we do love it and there was a glimmer of hope at the weekend.
Fethiyespor’s home game had to be played in Muğla because there was pitch maintenance going on at the Fethiyespor stadium.
It must have brought them luck because they won 2-1. (Goals have been very thin on the ground.)
And here’s another match where Fethiyespor won 2-1…
Yes, as I type, today is the day that marks one year since Fethiyespor took themselves off to the Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saraçoğlu stadium in Istanbul and only went and beat Fenerbahçe!
Of course, that wasn’t supposed to happen…but oh how elated we all were that it did happen. This was the blog post we wrote about 4th December 2013 – The Day Fethiyespor Wrote A Little Piece of History.
Days like this are always good for little morale boosters. A win at the weekend and memories of last year, too. Let’s hope for a turnaround for Fethiyespor.
Into December…
Decembers are all about looking back on the year that’s passed but we’ve not finished the year yet so let’s not write 2014 off already. Still a good few days left of it to enjoy!
Over on our Turkey’s For Life Facebook page, we’re doing a photo-a-day countdown, so please follow us there.
