July In Fethiye – Where Did It Go?

Goodbye to July and hello to August.

And that means a look back at our monthly news from life in Fethiye.

And, as is often the case in summer, this month has kind of passed us by where news is concerned.

We’ve been busy!

Always lovely to be gifted a bowl of aşure

Also known as Noah’s pudding, aşure is traditionally made and served during Muharram; the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Around Fethiye – and the rest of the country – neighbours have prepared and shared aşure with each other. And Fethiye Belediyesi (the local council) served it to the public, too.

July saw the launching of two new seabuses: one running between Bodrum, Turgutreis and Didim and, closer to home, a second seabus between Fethiye and Marmaris.

We hope the seabus proves to be really popular

Of course, we had to get out there and use it – like having a new toy in town.

We wrote all about our seabus experience and you can read that via the link above.

The seabus obviously took us to Marmaris…

It means that an easy day trip to Marmaris from Fethiye – and vice versa – is now possible.

Colourful letters spell out Marmaris.
For summer 2024, Marmaris is a good day trip from Fethiye

Obviously, you can just use the ferry for onward travel or to make a short break, too.

We’ve been to Marmaris a few times over the years so we’ve now also done our guide to Marmaris centre.

And we’ve not ruled out another visit before the summer finishes so that we can explore a bit more of the area.

There are still a few small bays and villages around the Bozburun Peninsula that we haven’t visited.

Another reason why the month of July flew by was Barry’s 50th birthday – and we had a short break on the Greek island of Symi planned.

Before we ended up here in 2003, Symi was going to be our next 2 week summer holiday.

Obviously that didn’t happen and it’s been on our radar ever since.

Barry’s 50th was the perfect excuse to finally get there and it was a great way to spend it!

July was a month of ferries

We’ll be doing an article on our Symi stay soon, but it was an easy trip from Fethiye.

The high speed Fethiye Rhodes ferry, a few hours around Rhodes Town and then another high speed ferry over to Symi.

Between this trip and our Marmaris day trip, July was very much a month of bobbing about on the ocean waves!

Not a lot of eating out around Fethiye in July due to day trips and the short break.

However, we have had friends out. So, on the last day of July, we made a return visit to Motif Restaurant along Çalış Beach for a farewell meal with them.

We haven’t eaten there in quite some time but we’re happy to report the food is still great. And it was very busy.

Our friends love to try different foods so we ordered a few different dishes just to share.

Shared meze plates, hot hummus, içli köfte, a mixed grill and Ali Nazik.

And we all just delved in.

We’ll be updating our Motif Restaurant article, soon.

It always feels really early when the new season prep and news starts to come in – but it has started.

The team are at their training camp in Kartepe (because who wants to train in Fethiye in this heat) and the transfers are underway.

Fethiyespor will be in White Group for the 2024-25 season

Also, the draw has been made and for the 2024-25 season, Fethiyespor are in the White Group of 2. Lig.

Their first match will be at home against GMG Kastamonuspor on the 1st September. Kick off time to come soon.

And we’ll be doing the season’s league table and fixture list for the blog, soon, too.

We’re already into August and we have more friends arriving this month, too.

Just for a week, so we should have a bit more awareness of other local news that’s happening around us, too.

Let’s see what August has in store for us…
