August – And A Bit Of September – In Fethiye

Oh, hello, September!

August has already been and gone – and September is well underway – so let’s have a very overdue catch up of our monthly news from Fethiye.

A little bit of what we’ve been up to…

The main reason for such a late update is because we had friends over on holiday for the final week of August and the first week of September.

So the end of one month – and the beginning of another – merged into a fortnight of restaurants and bars and bobbing about on the ocean (Mediterranean Sea) waves on a Fethiye boat trip!

Anyway, they’re all now safely back in sunny Wigan resuming normal daily life.

We’re doing the same here in Fethiye. And trying to catch up!

Being out and about has highlighted the fact that some of our articles about the bars and restaurants we like to visit need to be updated.

So September is going to be the month of updates!

Friends always love a trip to Cafe Park Teras

Cafe Park Teras was frequented a couple of times. By special request.

We also met for drinks at Deep Blue in Paspatur and Lukka, EY’s and Roof Bar along Çalış Beach.

Separately – because it’s inevitable that routine goes out of the window you don’t get chance to go to the Çalış Sunday market and the cupboards are bare – we’ve also grabbed quick-but-yummy late lunches at Kanatçı Mert (never disappoints) and again at Lukka.

We’ve been taking new photos as we go along. So all will be up to date soon.

Earlier in August, however, we were busy bees as far as the blog is concerned – both with updates and brand new articles.

As we find ourselves in lovely Kaş at least a couple of times a year, we’re upping our content for that area so that you and others can hopefully get as much from being there as we do.

A bit beachy as it’s summer.

A few hours at Big Pebble Beach is an essential for us

We’ve written our guide to Limanağzı where you can sail across to the beaches in a water taxi.

And we’ve also updated our article about our favourite beach – Big Pebble Beach – which includes a mention for its smaller sibling; Little Pebble Beach.

And anyone who knows Fethiye knows the famous Şövalye Island.

Nice to have a wander around Şövalye Island

We’ve had an article on the blog for a long time about this lovely place. But in August, we brought it right up to date.

And a new recipe was added to the blog in August.

We do have a largely Turkish diet and have prepared and cooked some of our Turkish recipes throughout August.

But we do eat other dishes, too. And the ones we eat a lot go into out international recipes section of the blog.

Spanish tomato bread has been a feature this summer

And when it’s hot, hot, hot – well it was August so of course it was hot – this Spanish tomato bread is perfect.

It’s featured a lot for us, this summer.

And the football season is underway! That means our league table and fixtures and results are also underway, too.

It’s not happy reading at the moment, unfortunately. But early days and all that…

Next home game is this weekend (Saturday) with a 7pm kickoff.

The bringing to life of ancient cities around the country continues at pace.

The ancient city of Stratonikeia, near Yatağan in the southwest of the country, now features a restored bath house with running water.

Sagalassos Antonine Nymphaeum - a long stone working fountain with water in the central area. Arches and columns line the fountain.
Sagalassos was the first site to have its fountain restored with running water

Meanwhile, at ancient Sagalassos, this is the latest city to be given the night time treatment. Visitors will now be able to wander around after sundown and experience the ruins under special lighting.

Both sites are on the ‘Tentative List’ for being recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

And that’s about it for now. It’s just how summer goes.

Let’s see what the rest of September has in store – the Fethiye weather is still very much in late summer mode (a Real Feel of 34 degrees as I type) so we’re hoping for some slightly more early autumnal temps soon…
